Hit and Run Fatality Investigation — Chico Police Release Vehicle Description —

Update

The Chico Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) investigators believe the suspect vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run incident, is a light-colored SUV similar to a Ford Explorer and likely an early 2000-2005 model. The vehicle was last seen traveling west on W. East Avenue. Investigators believe the vehicle may have front-end damage.

Chico, CA – On Thursday, November 9, 2017, shortly after 2:00AM, the Chico Police Department Dispatch Center received a call of a subject down in the roadway of W. East Avenue, west of the Esplanade.  The caller believed the victim to be deceased. Chico Police Officers and medics arrived on scene and confirmed the victim, an elderly male, was deceased.

At this point, it appears the deceased is the victim of a hit and run. The Chico Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) is on scene processing the evidence.  The suspect vehicle has not yet been identified.   Both lanes of West East Avenue (eastbound and westbound) are closed between the Esplanade and the entrance to Raley’s and Save Mart.  Drivers are asked to avoid the area to avoid congestion.
