Traffic Stop Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle on Thanksgiving Morning

Magalia, Ca–On, 11/23/17, at approximately 0955 hrs on Thanksgiving morning, Deputy J. Voris was patrolling the Magalia area on Jordan Hill Road at Coutolenc Road.

Deputy Voris saw a suspicious vehicle parked in the area with two male subjects standing near the vehicle.

Deputy Voris contacted James David Wells, DOB 11/07/1980 and Julius Hinman, DOB 10/25/1971, near the vehicle.

The vehicle was a 2004 Ford F250, gray in color.  Deputy Voris ran the license plate though dispatch.  Dispatch advised that the vehicle had been recently reported stolen to the Chico Police Department.

Deputy Voris interviewed both subjects regarding possession of the vehicle and subsequently arrested James Wells for possession of the stolen vehicle.

During the investigation, it was determined that James Wells is out of custody on bail from a previous possession of a stolen vehicle arrest.

James Wells was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for 496(d) PC (possession of a stolen vehicle) and 12022.1 PC (being arrested for a felony charge while out of custody on bail/O.R.)

The bail for James Wells was set at $40,000.  Julius Hinman was questioned and released.

The owner of the stolen vehicle was contacted and advised of the recovery.  The vehicle was later returned to the owner.
