Chico, CA – What began as a Chico Police officer responding to a fraud case turned into a foot pursuit involving numerous Chico Police officers, a K9 unit, a search perimeter established and ultimately, a wanted parolee taken into custody. The incident began Tuesday, November 28, 2017 shortly after 2:00P.M. A Chico Police officer responded to a business in the 600 Block of Broadway Street to investigate a fraud case. The officer learned the suspect in the case was inside the business attempting to purchase items using a fraudulent credit card and debit card. The officer made contact with the suspect, 32-year old Andrew Gasway; a wanted parolee from Sacramento. Upon contact Gasway fled on foot. The officer gave chase and lost sight of Gasway in the 700 block of Salem Street.
Numerous Chico Police officers responded to the area and quickly established a perimeter around the area Gasway was last seen. Officers cordoned off the area between West 7th Street to West 8th Street, and Broadway to Salem Streets. Police established a search team, which included a Chico Police K-9, and conducted and a yard-to-yard search. A Chico State Police officer assisting in the search spotted Gasway hiding beneath a chain link fence and tall grass behind a business in the 700 Block of Broadway Street. Gasway once again took off on foot. He was apprehended at approximately 4:19PM by Chico Police in the 700 block of Broadway Street.
Gasway was arrested without incident and booked into the Butte County Jail on numerous charges, including Burglary, Fraud and a Parole Warrant.
