Vehicle Collision investigation turned out to Vehicle Theft, Burglary and Arson Arrest in Chico

Chico, CA- On Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Chico Police Department officers responded to a vehicle collision on the 500 block of Pomona Avenue in Chico.  CPD officers arrived and located a female passed out behind the wheel of a Jeep that was towing an enclosed trailer.  The Jeep had collided with a locked metal gate.  The gate was severely damaged and the Jeep sustained some minor damage.  The female was identified as 37-year-old Jennifer Britt.  Upon further investigation, it was determined that Britt had stolen the vehicle from an address on the 1600 block of Dayton Road.  Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies and CPD officers responded to this residence and determined that a shop behind the residence on Dayton Road was on fire and several areas of the property had been ransacked.  Through the investigation, it was determined that Britt had entered the shop, lit some property on fire inside the shop and stole items including the Jeep, the trailer, and medication.

Britt was subsequently interviewed and arrested for two counts of vehicle theft, two counts of possession of stolen vehicles, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of prescription medication without a prescription, burglary and arson.  Britt is being held at the Butte County Jail with a total bail of $82,000.00.  The vehicle and trailer were recovered and released back to the owner.
