Areas Affected: Motherlode; Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley
Series of winter storms expected to bring periods of dangerous mountain travel. Heavy snow forecast in the Western Plumas mountains and Sierra Nevada today. Strong wind combines with heavy snow resulting in near white out conditions. Snow level lowers to 3500 to 4500 feet Sunday with snow impacting the Coastal Range.
Colder storm Monday into Tuesday will bring heavy mountain snow and strong wind with significant snow in the foothills. Travel into the high country is strongly discouraged through early next week.
* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the morning commute on Tuesday. Total snow accumulations up to 8 inches, with localized amounts of 1 to 2 feet are possible.
